This movie was just plain weird. I really went in wanting to like it, but the whole pretentious, overly poetic vibe, combined with this choppy editing that keeps hopping back and forth in these tiny five to ten second bursts, just made it feel dragged out for no real reason, way too self indulgent if you ask me. Honestly this could've been trimmed down to a fifteen minute short and lost nothing. And I still don't get what the deal was with women dancing along the beach while some overwrought, flowery narration plays over the top. The plot creeps along at a snail's pace, slowly building toward some confrontation that you can see coming from a mile away and that just gets duller the closer it gets. By the time it actually happened I'd totally checked out as a viewer, even with two genuinely good looking guys leading the film. The setup itself is pretty basic. Lorena and Diego are trying to settle into a new life in a small town by the coast, both nervously starting fresh ...
Kawe and Henrique have been close friends forever. Henrique's openly gay and finds real comfort in his straight friend Kawe, who's always there for him no matter what. When Henrique breaks up with Jorge and seems down about it, Kawe keeps trying to lift his spirits but nothing's really working. So he comes up with an idea, signing up on Grindr hoping to find someone decent to set Henrique up with. He ends up finding Mike and introduces the two of them. But the more time Kawe spends around Henrique through all this, the more he realizes he's developing feelings of his own, though he doesn't fully understand what's happening and struggles to process it. Even their mutual girlfriend keeps joking about it constantly. As Henrique's birthday gets closer, Kawe finally sits with his own feelings and decides he needs to actually do something about it. Then he learns Mike's actually interested in someone else entirely, not Henrique, which pushes Kawe to finally open up about how he feels, and Kawe and Henrique finally kiss, a moment that felt inevitable the whole time since their chemistry was obvious to literally everyone around them.
Honestly this series, set in a college town, keeps things pretty simple, the kind of story that probably would've been made a decade ago. There's no big dramatic twists here, just this quiet realization that you've secretly been in love with your best friend the whole time without even noticing. I genuinely liked watching Kawe's feelings shift, starting as just a friend, becoming someone more protective and caring, then someone who genuinely wants to spend all his time with Henrique, and finally someone who admits what he's actually feeling. As for Henrique, he mostly comes across as a guy who just wants to be loved by someone. I do think his character needed a bit more depth though, because honestly I couldn't tell if he was ever actually in love with Kawe at all. Their female friend in the group gets some of the funniest lines in the whole show. Production wise it's still a little rough around the edges if I'm being honest, but the acting holds up better than a lot of other Brazilian BL shows I've watched. The actor playing Kawe is good looking and handles the role well. Overall it's a decent one time watch, nothing that'll stick with you, but a simple, sweet little story. (5.5/10)
