Sadly this series ends up falling into the same trap most GMM shows do. I really wanted this one to be good, the setup genuinely had potential. And honestly it does start off strong, playful, funny, with this fun little love scam angle running through it. But once you hit around episode four or five, it slides right back into the same tired formula every other show like this follows, leaving barely anything memorable behind. Twelve episodes, each around fifty five to sixty minutes, so it's asking for a real time commitment, but it doesn't really deliver enough charm to justify all that. The story revolves around cousins Pai and North, both heirs to a wealthy, influential family. Pai's thriving in business, while North keeps burning through family money on failed ventures. Shikhar and Agastya have been living together a full year at this point, and life's settled into a pretty steady routine. Meera's even got a new boyfriend now. Shikhar seems content in the relationship, but Agastya's constant insecurity starts getting under his skin, and he can't figure out how to reassure him that he isn't going anywhere. Out of nowhere one day, Shikhar bumps into Tarun at a shop. Flashbacks scattered through every episode reveal that Tarun was actually Shikhar's first love, his art teacher back in university. Shikhar was completely in love with him, but Tarun himself wasn't sure about his own sexuality. Even though the two of them were kind of together, Tarun vanished one day and ended up marrying a woman instead. That whole experience left Shikhar bitter about love, and it's basically the root of his cold, distant behavior from season one, why he keeps sleeping around instead of ever letting anyone in emotionally. Running into Tarun again just makes Agastya's insecurity even worse, yet he still invites Tarun to use their apartment as an art studio, telling himself in this weird way that if Shikhar and Tarun are meant to reconnect, it'll happen regardless. In a twist nobody sees coming, Tarun actually starts developing feelings for Agastya, who's completely oblivious to it. While Shikhar's off in London for an art exhibition, a phone call leaves Agastya convinced he's off having fun with someone else, and it wrecks him emotionally. Between that and his mother's health scare piling on, he ends up sleeping with Tarun in a moment of weakness. He comes clean to Shikhar right after, and neither of them knows what to do next. Like you'd expect, they sit down and talk it through like grown adults, with Shikhar also coming to terms with the fact that he needs to put in real effort to help Agastya feel secure in their relationship. There's a smaller side plot with Meera not trusting her own boyfriend, and while trying to get her and her boyfriend back together, Agastya and Shikhar also find their own way back to each other. Tarun ultimately realizes he shouldn't be inserting himself between this couple.
The writing this season is genuinely strong. There's a lot happening, plenty of it stuff a lot of people will find relatable. Unfortunately that also means the show gets pretty talky. Episode after episode is packed with dialogue and conversation. There's basically zero physical intimacy shown between Agastya and Shikhar as an actual couple, barely even a kiss until near the end, and honestly they read more like roommates most of the time. There's clearly love there, but a few scenes actually showing them as a physically intimate couple would've gone a long way in my opinion. That said, the show does a fantastic job illustrating how the smallest things can quietly break a relationship apart. Insecurity, emotional distance from your partner, life turning into routine, feeling taken for granted, avoiding honest communication to dodge conflict, and old flames resurfacing, these all feel like real situations, and the show weaves them together well, though that also becomes part of the problem. The season ends up leaning more into angst than actual love. Every actor brings their A game again this season, but Tarun really stands out to me, both as a character and through the performance. As a viewer you're never fully sure if he's being sincere or quietly trying to manipulate things between the couple. I personally connected with the backstory of him not being able to come out openly years ago and having to marry a woman instead, breaking Shikhar's heart in the process. Maybe he could've handled that situation better. But I get where he was coming from. So now that he's back and making moves toward Agastya, it left me feeling like there might genuinely be two sides to who he is.
I honestly wasn't sure how they'd wrap this up, since justifying Agastya cheating on Shikhar isn't easy. But in a way that mirrors things, Shikhar recognizes that his own inability to fully open up and connect with Agastya basically created the perfect conditions for something like this to happen. He knew exactly who Tarun was the whole time. And that actually made total sense to me. Even so, it came off a bit staged, not quite as raw or heartfelt as it could've been. Agastya and Shikhar could really use a bit more heat, more real chemistry and passion, for us to fully buy into their love story. It's still a solid show, but there's room to take it further. (7/10)
