English Teacher: Season 2 (TV Series)

I was a huge fan of season one, that sharp, satirical humor really worked for me and I rated it pretty high, so I went into this season with high hopes. Unfortunately it let me down hard. Not only did the jokes just not land for me this time, I actually found myself checking out and bored during nearly every episode. Honestly I'm not shocked the show got cancelled after this season. Same as before, it's ten episodes, each about twenty minutes long. Same cast is back, but everything felt off somehow. Alvarez's character Mr Evans shifts from being this loveable mess who deals with life through neurotic charm into more of a grown man trying desperately to fit into some kind of Bro Code Brotherhood of America thing. We've still got Malcolm as the boyfriend, Gwen as his high energy best friend, Markie the gym teacher, plus the principal and Rick. Fight For Love (Vietnamese Series)

This cute little Vietnamese story stays on track and doesn't force itself with random side stories to throw you off track. With just 7 episodes of about 22 to 30 minutes duration, the show was quite an easy to watch series with a nice BL at the central core of it. A simple, heartfelt love story.

Show starts with Binh accidentally bumping into Thang and breaking his camera. Binh works in a cafe but wants to be a singer. However he lacks the confidence owing to some burn scars on his neck that he got in his childhood. Thang takes liking for Binh and joins the same cafe. In the same cafe, Binh has a boyfriend Van, who unknown to Binh is also having a secret affair with another guy. When Binh finds out he is heartbroken and somehow he stats warming up to flirtations from Thang, who also raises Binh's confidence to participate in an upcoming singing competition. In parallel, evil Van also harbors making it big as a singer and has been using all these boys as a stepping ladder. When Thang finds about his reality an truth, he takes upon himself to expose the guy and support Binh in realizing his dreams. In a nice heartfelt finale, Thang is able to prove his true love to Binh (who had been going through a rough patch, owing to certain misunderstandings thanks again to Van).

The series started out as a light comedy, but slowly moves to being a heartfelt love story entangled in emotional distress. This is really a story about redemption. As the story unfolds, we find that as a child, Thang was the source of Binh’s insecurities and fears without realizing it and now must prove that he is no longer that same individual. On the other hand, Binh must also learn to trust and forgive and put into perspective. The supporting members in the story had a nice touch to it. Binh's very supportive friend and neighbor and co-worker and his lover are the true friends we can all use. They both try to facilitate Binh and Thang in their rocky development as they both can see deep down that they are in love with each other. Both give very good performances and are saleable as friends rather than as caricatures. Coming to the leads, they both do an amazing job and share a good chemistry, although it could have been better. The beauty of this series is its steadfast focus to ‘make the right decision’. And the sacrifices that might have to fulfill to make those decisions. Van, being the archaic villain has been using pretty much everyone who comes in his life and is a persona thats best left less talked about. But as an actor, the guy does well. Overall, the series is a decent watchable experience. (6.5/10)

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent.
