Gaycation: Season 1

Gaycation  is a mix of a travel show and a deep-dive documentary that feels incredibly personal. It follows Elliot Page and best friend Ian Daniel as they head out to explore what life is actually like for LGBTQ+ people in different corners of the globe. Instead of just hitting the tourist spots, they really get into the nitty-gritty of the local cultures in Japan, Brazil, and Jamaica. The first season is made up of four main episodes, each about 45 minutes long, and it wraps up with a heavy special episode about the tragic Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. In Japan, the pair hangs out in Tokyo , looking at the weird mix of high-tech living and old-school traditions. They check out a place where you can actually rent a friend, party in the tiny bars of Ni-chōme, and even see a "friendship marriage" at a temple. The most intense part is when a young guy uses their cameras to finally tell his mom he's gay, which shows how much pressure there is to just "fit in"...

My Boyfriend Is a Sex Worker 1 & 2 (Filipino)

This movie actually came out as two different parts, or you could say the sequel just followed right after the first one. Honestly, there was no reason to split it up like that. They tried to sell them as short films, but since each one is about 50 minutes long, I’m just going to review them together as one big story.

Ace and Gio are a really happy gay couple. Gio makes his living as an online sex worker, and sometimes Ace even hops on camera to join him. Things take a turn when Ace brings Gio home to meet the parents, and Gio finds out his boyfriend is actually super rich and comes from a big-deal political family. Ace's mom is a real piece of work and thinks nobody is good enough for her "perfect" son, though Ace’s sister is actually really sweet to Gio. During dinner, it comes out that Gio started this work to pay for his mom’s cancer treatments. Ace's mom senses something is up, does some digging, and finds out about the sex work. Instead of talking to her son, she corners Gio and tells him he'll ruin Ace’s future if he stays. For some reason, Gio just listens to her and leaves without saying a word to Ace. When Ace finally figures out what happened, he has a huge blowout with his mom and runs off to find Gio, which is where the first part ends.

The second part picks up a year later with the two of them living separate lives. Gio is still doing his cam work, while Ace is basically miserable and depressed. Ace’s sister, who stayed friends with Gio, cooks up a plan to trap them in the same house so they have to actually talk. They finally hash things out, and Ace convinces Gio that he should’ve trusted their love instead of just running away. Just as they’re getting back together, the mom tries to start her drama again, but this time the kids stand up to her. They tell her they get that she’s worried, but she has to let them live their own lives. Surprisingly, the mom has a change of heart and finally accepts them both, including Gio and his career choice.

I don't have any personal issues with sex work, but it felt like the filmmakers only picked this topic and title to get people to click on it. I get that Gio started it to pay for his mom’s medical bills, but if Ace’s family is really that powerful and rich, you’d think he would’ve helped Gio find a different career path at some point. Gio isn't ashamed of his job, but let's be real—people judge, and unless he just loves camming or makes a ton of money, it felt like he could’ve easily done something else. The acting across the board is pretty average, too. Also we are not clearly told why did they break up. Ace leaves home to follow Gio in first film but couldn't they just had a conversation like two normal adults? The only character who felt like a real person was the sister, especially in the second half. Both movies start with really steamy sex scenes, so it’s pretty obvious who they’re trying to attract. The filmmakers want to say you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and that love is love, but the whole thing is just kind of forgettable.

It’s a pretty standard story that feels like it’s trying too hard to be edgy, and the average acting doesn't help it stay in your mind for long. (4/10)

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

Gaya Sa Pelikula (Filipino Series) [Like In The Movies]

Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent. Karl takes on odd jobs online to do so. But when one of his major clients suddenly goes MIA, he is left short on funds and without a means to pay for his utilities. An opportunity presents itself when his cocky neighbor Vlad has to hide from his family and proposes to share Karl's space for th...
