Gaycation: Season 1

Gaycation  is a mix of a travel show and a deep-dive documentary that feels incredibly personal. It follows Elliot Page and best friend Ian Daniel as they head out to explore what life is actually like for LGBTQ+ people in different corners of the globe. Instead of just hitting the tourist spots, they really get into the nitty-gritty of the local cultures in Japan, Brazil, and Jamaica. The first season is made up of four main episodes, each about 45 minutes long, and it wraps up with a heavy special episode about the tragic Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando. In Japan, the pair hangs out in Tokyo , looking at the weird mix of high-tech living and old-school traditions. They check out a place where you can actually rent a friend, party in the tiny bars of Ni-chōme, and even see a "friendship marriage" at a temple. The most intense part is when a young guy uses their cameras to finally tell his mom he's gay, which shows how much pressure there is to just "fit in"...

Me And Who (Thai Series)

This series was a really sweet mix of funny moments and romance, and it focused on the important message of fighting for the person you love. The story is about a poor guy who suddenly finds himself in the body of a billionaire’s heir. To make things more complicated, he is engaged to the son of a hotel tycoon. Things get even crazier when he realizes his new fiancé can actually read minds! The plot is super interesting, and luckily, the show was made well too. The creators got really lucky because the two lead actors are so charming and really became their characters, which makes the whole thing very easy to watch. Each of the ten episodes lasts about an hour.

The story starts with Phopthorn, just a regular guy who is working hard to get by. After an accident, he wakes up and realizes he is now in the body of Apo, a famous billionaire social media star who happens to look exactly like him. Apo is supposed to marry Suriya, a high-class guy with a sharp way of talking but a very kind heart. Suriya also has a secret power: he can read minds. At first, the fake Apo has to try and trick everyone into thinking he’s the real deal, which is hilarious because Phopthorn is nothing like the original diva. Because of his mind-reading, Suriya quickly figures out that this isn't the real Apo. Instead of telling everyone, they make a deal to keep pretending, which leads to a lot of mix-ups and eventually real feelings. While their families are busy planning the wedding, the two of them try to figure out what actually happened to the real Apo and who was behind his accident. Of course, while they are solving the mystery, they get to know each other and fall deeply in love.

This is a really silly and fun show to watch. The first few episodes are great because they show Phopthorn trying to learn how to be Apo. However, I did find it a bit weird that after Suriya spends all that time teaching him how to act, the character just kind of stops trying to fake it. I might have missed something there! The parents on both sides add a lot of chaos and laughs, especially Suriya’s mom. There was a funny part where she sends a butler to spy on the couple to see what they are up to. Suriya’s dad eventually turns into a bit of a villain because he blames Apo for changing his son. The show started off strong and the last few episodes were good too, especially when we find out that Suriya’s ex-boyfriend was actually the one who caused the accident. But I felt like the show lost a bit of its magic in the middle. Even though mind-reading is a big part of the plot, it didn't actually cause as much drama as I expected. If you’re looking for an intense suspense thriller about psychic powers, you might be let down. On the bright side, the romance is done really well. There are a lot of "does he like me?" moments that keep you guessing. When they finally do kiss, it feels very passionate, romantic, and real. Their chemistry feels totally natural, which helps make the goofy scenes feel more grounded. The whole show really depended on whether you could believe these two actually loved each other, and the actors totally nailed it. You can feel the sincerity in every promise and sacrifice they make. The actor playing Apo is definitely the star of the show. There is a second couple in the mix, but honestly, I wasn't very interested in their story.

Overall, it’s a pretty good show, but like a lot of series, it felt a bit dragged out in the middle. Since the episodes are an hour long, I think a tighter script with more of those light, funny moments would have made it even better for me. (6.5/10)

Drug Shore (Chinese)

Apparently tis film was adapted by a true story Well, true or not, movies/series about drugs are not easy to watch. I have always said that drugs is like the end of life for anyone. For those who sink into this sea of addiction, some manage to swim upstream to recovery, while others cannot make it to the shore. The film may not be the best, but it does have a noble intention to remind everyone of the evil affects of drugs and combining that with sex. Ah Zhe is in a happy relationship with his influencer boyfriend. On his partner's birthday, they end up going to a party, which interestingly is being hosted at a drug dealer's house and this is where for the first time he is exposed to the world of drugs. The duo somehow do it just enough and come back home but next day Ah She gets invited by the dealer Xiao Fei for a meal. The dealer has a soft corner for Ah Zhe, but before anyone realizes, Ah Zhe's life spirals out of control when slowly he starts doing more and more drugs, ...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

Gaya Sa Pelikula (Filipino Series) [Like In The Movies]

Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent. Karl takes on odd jobs online to do so. But when one of his major clients suddenly goes MIA, he is left short on funds and without a means to pay for his utilities. An opportunity presents itself when his cocky neighbor Vlad has to hide from his family and proposes to share Karl's space for th...
