Journey With You (Chinese Series)

I've always had kind of a love hate relationship with Chinese historical BLs. Some are genuinely excellent, but then there are others that cram in so much plot that keeping track of all the layers of betrayal and scheming gets exhausting, and I end up checking out mentally. Part of the issue is also just how much content is out there in this space, so something really has to stand out to keep me hooked. In this case, the production value is genuinely impressive, top tier stuff, but story wise, I just couldn't bring myself to actually care about these characters. There's a ton of political scheming and backstage manipulation running throughout. Somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, a hostage ends up falling for his own Prince Charming. The show runs eight episodes, each around 50 to 60 minutes long. After spending three years guarding the border, Fifth Prince Yin Qi gets called back to the capital because of a secret letter, only to end up walking straight into a deadly...

Heartstopper: Season 3 (Web Series) (UK)

I am sure, anyone who has seen first two seasons, would not have expected the change of pace and the storyline that is offered to the audience. The plot is a bit heavier than the usual lovey-dovey ones we have watched in first two seasons. It is not to say that the romance is not there, but the plat also focuses on some very meaningful and deep changes to the love story of Nick and Charlie. I also have. To say it that I did miss my favorite Olivia Coleman. I so wish she was there even just for a cameo maybe.

All the various couple are doing well in this relationships and we just see how they are all growing. The main focus. This time is on Nick's concerns around Charlie's struggles with eating and the possible disorder that he has. Alongwth help of Charlie's very supportive sister, Nick eventually gets to share etc burden of noticing something odd about Charlie and wanting to be there for him. These are kids and they just dont know what is wrong with Charlie and how they can help. Eventually an honest conversation with parents make them realize that the issues go further deep. Charlie eventually goes into rehab where he spends 3 months trying to work on his issues. The impact that this separation has on them both is shown beautifully with two different perspectives. The second half continues tp focus on that but also on the next two very important topics. They both want to take their relationship to next level and have sex but the awkwardness around being a teenager, having never done it, over-expectations are nicely handled and it eventually happens. And the final topic is around the fact that Nick is soon going to be out of college, so what is that going to mean for their relationship. Should Nick continue to only think of Charlie and his needs, or as his friends say, It is University Tim and Nick is allowed to be selfish for once.

We also see continuing stories of the other friends. The bookish asexual guy gets little more time, presumable to educate audience about aromanticism. We also see more of Darcy's journey into exploring their gender while dealing with a mother whose negative reaction to Darcy’s sexuality, gender expression and general existence leads to a demonstration of firmly establishing boundaries that many older generations could learn from. Tao and Elle are happy in their relationship even with Elle going to a new art school. Elle, a trans woman, is given space to explain her dysphoria, and again, this couple’s intimacy is filmed respectfully, and in a non-exploitative manner.

Even with the evolution of characters and storylines contained within this season, Heartstopper continues to inhabit a world that is generally warm and loving. Even the darkest moments have a positive outcome. Nick and Charlie make a couple that we all wanna be a part of.  Charlie's performance special deserves special mention.  He show you that you can be loved in abundance and still face terrifying trials in your head, emerging as very real scars. This is not to say that there are no more lighter moments but they are few, far in between. In addition to focusing in the lead couple, the show is trying its best to show various spectrums within the LGBTQ+ community and the specific issues that teenagers these days have to go through. Like everyone else, I also wish we saw a bit more detailed account of the scene when they finally "do it", but hey we cant have it all. The sho w, even its third season, still makes it for a mandatory watch. (8.5/10)

Hey Golu! It's been a long time sorry, and I know you've been super busy too, so thank you as always for the great review. For sure we didn't expect the dark tone at first. On the plus side, somehow I got the strange feeling that the gay couple wasn't that important. I mean in the way them being gay is not even a subject anymore. Especially compared to previous seasons. Or should I say also compared to the other LGBT sides of the spectrum that are more what's "off the norm" now (I must admit I did learn about aromantism, only knew about asexuality).
Also I really have to watch the series in english, because in french they gave Elle a girly voice. Which probably totally ruins the impact of the character as a trans woman.
The second part was more comparable with first seasons in the light tone. First sex experiences were handled beautifully.
"Spoilers" : Next season Nick moves away and becomes a sexy club shirtless addict banging everyone, while Charlie becomes a power bottom. Then a season latter they finally reunite, confess their love, enjoy sex to its fullest thanks to their experiences as whores, and at last they lived peacefully ever after. Awww, so romantic... XD
I wish we could have had some Olivia Coleman too!

The Tuxedo (Thai Series)

When I saw this series with 8 episodes of about 20-25 minutes each, I thought, good: Finally someone has come to senses and made a show which is not stretched out and they have tried to squeeze in a decent storyline in a good small episode format. But unfortunately, despite a decent premise on hand, the clunky writing, bad screenplay and an extreme tasteless portrayal of mental illness makes this show, not a fun watch. By the time it finishes, you just want to laugh off at the entire absurdity of it all. Aioun is talented tuxedo designer and very much in demand but he has handful of clients and he builds suits only for people who he feels a connection to. One night when his younger brother is about to get mugged, he is helped by a total stranger named Sichol. Since he tears his suit in the fight and has an interview the next day, Aioun gifts him a suit form his design as an expression of thanks. Sichol's interview is for. Personal assistant of a man named Nawee, a wealthy heir to h...

Heartstopper: Season 2 (Web Series) (UK)

Heartstopper Season 1 was a universal hit. You could not have read one bad review or heard from anyone who has seen the show not liking it. It was the kind of series that is easy to love, with sweetness exploding out of every scene without overwhelming you. So naturally, when Netflix greenly Season 2, expectations were naturally high and the same happened with me. I didn't know what to expect, but I had high expectations of this very very sweet teenage love story. And with eagerness and being a little late to the game by a few days, here I am, pouring my t thoughts down having just finished one of the most anticipated shows of the year. The second season also has 10 episodes and has all of our loved ones from the original season. The show continues from where it had left off in Season 1. Charlie and Nick are a couple and only their very close circle of friends know about it. This includes Charlie's best friend Tao and his trans best friend Elle. The center of the show is still ...

Gaya Sa Pelikula (Filipino Series) [Like In The Movies]

Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent. Karl takes on odd jobs online to do so. But when one of his major clients suddenly goes MIA, he is left short on funds and without a means to pay for his utilities. An opportunity presents itself when his cocky neighbor Vlad has to hide from his family and proposes to share Karl's space for th...
