Journey With You (Chinese Series)

I've always had kind of a love hate relationship with Chinese historical BLs. Some are genuinely excellent, but then there are others that cram in so much plot that keeping track of all the layers of betrayal and scheming gets exhausting, and I end up checking out mentally. Part of the issue is also just how much content is out there in this space, so something really has to stand out to keep me hooked. In this case, the production value is genuinely impressive, top tier stuff, but story wise, I just couldn't bring myself to actually care about these characters. There's a ton of political scheming and backstage manipulation running throughout. Somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, a hostage ends up falling for his own Prince Charming. The show runs eight episodes, each around 50 to 60 minutes long. After spending three years guarding the border, Fifth Prince Yin Qi gets called back to the capital because of a secret letter, only to end up walking straight into a deadly...

Rainbow Lagoon (Thai Mini Series)

The couple from the series 'Country Boys' is back with this 2 part series of 30 minute each, with a new story that continues to follow the pattern of a simple love story based on real genuine feelings, unpretentious attitude, and honesty. Just like with their other films, the budget and probably the production house had basic minimal budget. A simple story combined with basic budget tries its best to convert the emotions but sadly it fails short of anything memorable. 

The film starts with Nueng and Ten fighting for the same girl's attention who ditches them both for a third guy. Supposed to be enemies now. Nueng happens to be sitting in a restaurant owned by Ten's mother. Initially not wanting to serve him, his mother forces him to, as he is now a paying customer. The two start to talking and slowly realize that they may have more in common than they think. They begin to know each other and as they do, they become from very good friends to having feelings for one another and are actually in love. They realize that they are more like each other than unlike.

The two actors continue their streak of pure innocence and love. They don't overact, but I also felt that maybe in process of trying tome as natural as possible, they maybe underplayed their part. I would have liked to learn more and understand what were some of thee things that eventually brought them closer not just as friends but lovers. I mean, I have seen instances of two male friends being very close to one another but strictly as friends, so I struggled a little to understand what really prompted the love between these two people. The mother has little to do but I did like the fact that she was supportive of her son's decisions and love. The setting and story were natural and grounded and that does give it the realistic touch. I am all about supporting upcoming production houses, actors, directors. As a story I wish there was more to it, and I think these two actors have proved thatchy are good. Now they need a good director who can bring out that energy from these two and take them to the next level. (4.5/10)

When I saw this series with 8 episodes of about 20-25 minutes each, I thought, good: Finally someone has come to senses and made a show which is not stretched out and they have tried to squeeze in a decent storyline in a good small episode format. Heartstopper: Season 2 (Web Series) (UK)

Heartstopper Season 1 was a universal hit. You could not have read one bad review or heard from anyone who has seen the show not liking it. It was the kind of series that is easy to love, with sweetness exploding out of every scene without overwhelming you. So naturally, when Netflix greenly Season 2, expectations were naturally high and the same happened with me. I didn't know what to expect, but I had high expectations of this very very sweet teenage love story. Gaya Sa Pelikula (Filipino Series) [Like In The Movies]

Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent.
