Salo (Tagalog) [Share]

This one feels like it was made more for eye candy than anything else. The film is almost 15 years old now, so it might've been one of the earlier ones to touch on a throuple, or at least hint at it. It runs about 75 minutes, which makes it an easy sit, but with tighter editing and fewer repetitive scenes, it could've been a crisp little short film. Rene runs the family business to support his sick grandmother, while his aunt, who looks after her, keeps trying to match him up with different women so he'll finally settle down. The thing is, Rene's gay, and he's in love with his driver. He's way too shy and closed off to ever say it out loud, but one weekend he loosens up on a seaside trip with the guy he's crazy about. That night, after a lot of drinking, they sleep together and Rene finally admits how he feels. Still, he knows the driver has a long term partner he can't leave. Once Rene's had enough, he heads to the driver's house planning to tal...

Follow My Sunshine (Vietnamese Series)

This is a done to death story. Especially watching it so close to the heels of Thai show with Tonhon couple, I felt as if I was watching just the repeat version of the Thai show. I am not saying that anyone copied it, but for such basic stories, its the execution that matters, and I think Vietnamese BL series have a long way to go. This show was thankfully just 5 episodes averaging to 17-20 minutes of run time, so it was a relatively easy watch.

Nhat and Van have been friends since childhood. When they go to college, they decide to join same program and live together. In college Nhat gets a girlfriend, oblivious to the fact that Van has been in love with him. Van takes care of Nhat at home cooking and all but also feels heartbroken. Meanwhile Nhat's girlfriend feels that he talks a lot about Van and is there more to their friendship. One drunk night, Van professes his love to Nhat, who is very confused by everything going around him, because he is very close to Van but has never considered him as a potential partner. When Nhat tells his girlfriend that she will always be his priority, Van is heartbroken and leaves to go to his home. Nhat realizes how much he misses Van and goes after him and confesses his love. In a shocking climax (which turns out to be a dream eventually), the two lovers are reunited back in their college town.

This is a typical high school turned college love story, which tries to focus on the usual confusing feelings that every LGBTQ teenager experiences during their coming out phase. The film makers heart was at the right place but execution is very choppy. The class has some random characters like Van's bets friends who constantly tease him about Nhat, even in front of him or the grumpy guy in the back who probably has hidden feelings for Van. The locations are natural and beautiful, but who stays at home all dresses up like Van and Nhat does. Van's look with shorts and a hat totally annoyed me for some reason. I know its silly! As actors the two leads do a good job, although the crackling chemistry is missing here. Also as close as they are, there is always a fine line between string and close male friendship and when does that turn into love. We all have our separate philosophies regarding this, so there is no right answer. Thankfully Nhat's girlfriend is shown to be slightly more mature here compared to the Thai girlfriends who are always evil in the shows. The romance didn’t happen till the penultimate episode, because that’s how long it took for Nhat to come to his senses. The finale seemed a bit random and rushed and I’m wondering why they muddled the rather confusing dream sequence with reality. That was so not necessary at all. Overall, its a nice basic show with some easy moments. It has nothing new to offer but just a warm fuzzy view of a gay couple's budding romance in Vietnamese country setting. (4.5/10)

Super sweet, yet nothing ground breaking (especially if you're used to asian BL). It was the first time I've heard vietnamese language and I don't know but I had the feeling they were talking so smoothly, like whispering at times. I found it beautiful. Then I watched "my monster in law" and had a totally different experience haha.

The Tuxedo (Thai Series)

When I saw this series with 8 episodes of about 20-25 minutes each, I thought, good: Finally someone has come to senses and made a show which is not stretched out and they have tried to squeeze in a decent storyline in a good small episode format. But unfortunately, despite a decent premise on hand, the clunky writing, bad screenplay and an extreme tasteless portrayal of mental illness makes this show, not a fun watch. By the time it finishes, you just want to laugh off at the entire absurdity of it all. Aioun is talented tuxedo designer and very much in demand but he has handful of clients and he builds suits only for people who he feels a connection to. One night when his younger brother is about to get mugged, he is helped by a total stranger named Sichol. Since he tears his suit in the fight and has an interview the next day, Aioun gifts him a suit form his design as an expression of thanks. Sichol's interview is for. Personal assistant of a man named Nawee, a wealthy heir to h...

Heartstopper: Season 2 (Web Series) (UK)

Heartstopper Season 1 was a universal hit. You could not have read one bad review or heard from anyone who has seen the show not liking it. It was the kind of series that is easy to love, with sweetness exploding out of every scene without overwhelming you. So naturally, when Netflix greenly Season 2, expectations were naturally high and the same happened with me. I didn't know what to expect, but I had high expectations of this very very sweet teenage love story. And with eagerness and being a little late to the game by a few days, here I am, pouring my t thoughts down having just finished one of the most anticipated shows of the year. The second season also has 10 episodes and has all of our loved ones from the original season. The show continues from where it had left off in Season 1. Charlie and Nick are a couple and only their very close circle of friends know about it. This includes Charlie's best friend Tao and his trans best friend Elle. The center of the show is still ...

2 Moons 2: The Series (Thai)

This reboot/sequel is interesting. I had reviewed 2 moons earlier on my blog, but the season 2 is a combination of being a reboot and a sequel in true sense. Whatever the legal reasons were for the old cast to not continue with this show are none of my concern. Like most people. I was also apprehensive of watching new actors take over characters that I had already associated faces with, but it didn't take much time to like these actors as well. The first 4 episodes does a recap of what we saw in prequel, right till the moment of Ming winning the Moon title. The following 8 episodes takes the story further. Recap of 2 Moons. Wayo and Ming are best friends. The moon competition has just ended, which Ming has won.Wayo is now in love with medical student Pha and they are officially a couple now. Ming continues to flirt with Pha's best friend Kit, who still can't decide whether he likes Ming or not. Beam is the other friend, with whole we have not seen much yet and finally ...
