A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. This 8 episode Brazilian gay web series is just a waste of talent and time for both actors and viewers. It is available on YouTube to watch but I hope no one spends time on it. I understand make shows and videos have become easy for people to make but there should be some logic and aim and plan behind making such series.
We meet Gabriel, a YouTube and social influencer, who has recently come under trouble for tweeting some homophobic slur, despite him being gay. His agency manager and owner together decide that it might b a good idea for him to stay away from public life in a remote place till heat dies down. His manager sends him to his cousin Pedro's home in a remote town. Pedro is closet gay who is trying to make it with his girlfriend but arrival of Gabriel complicates thing and before we know, the two guys fall for each other. Meanwhile there is plotting and scheming going on between the agencies. When Pedro's mother dies in the city, the do come to city to deal with public scrutiny while working on their relationship. The show then has rather abrupt ending.
There are a lot of problems with this series, from bad story to really bad acting. The continuity is all over the place. The connect and gradual attraction between Pedro and Gabriel in the beginning are handled well but eventually it just feels toxic. There are all sort of impediments that come their way and they just magically get resolved. Totally random! We also see some politics between agency management but that was again just there. Pedro's girlfriend was so clingy that despite knowing her boyfriend is gay, she just wanted to be with him. Gabriel was a bad bad actor and so was the agency owner lady. Pedro was the online decent who could act but other than that, this is a complete miss. There is absolutely nothing worth talking about fo this series. Absolute waste of time and I am so angry for doing that. (1/10)
