A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. While they're trying to figure out how to start a family and have a baby, they decide to shake things up by in...
What was the whole point of making this film really!!I don't understand why writers would write something so bad (which doesn't even deserve a short film format) and then someone will actually fund and make almost a 2 hour movie where literally nothing is going on.
Rolf is depressive 50 plus year old man who wants t o be in relationships and has been in a few but doesn't like being alone. His half-sister seems to be his only friend and doesn't have good relations with his parents. H meets Thomas online, another 57 year old man and soon they hot it off well with each other. Thomas is a well read, successful guy and many times Rolf feels he is not unto Thomas' standard. The next 90 minutes are around the two men spending time together talking random shit about books and politics and other stuff. As expected, a couple of times misunderstandings happen but they stick together. Eventually they decide to go for a trip, which gets Rolf super excited but suddenly A day before that Thomas dies of cardiac arrest leaving Rolf alone.
You would think this is a sad love story but it really isn't. Its annoying, if anything. Two very dull people get together (nothing wrong with that) and get know one another; but why torture audience with such a boring storyline. I mean if the two could find someone in one another, good for them, but there was not one single things that as interesting in either of them as individuals or in their relationship as well. It was boring with a capital B. The actors were o doing their job but it was the awful story and direction and of course the dialogues. The dialogues felt very bookish and not something normal people talk (unless the version Is aw had terrible subtitles). Many scenes in the film made no sense, like Rolf's interactions with his boos or his parents. Completely avoidable. (1/10)
