This one's a beautiful, tender, quiet romantic drama with a moody atmosphere, set in a tight knit Welsh fishing community. It's a touching story about a man waking up sexually in the middle of his life, and how he, his family, and everyone around him deal with it, which makes it emotional and sentimental without ever getting over the top. The slow burn plays out against a landscape that's as bleak as it is gorgeous, where quiet, closed off men are stuck inside rigid ideas of what masculinity should be. Some people might be reminded of "God's Own Country," but I think both films are lovely in their own way. Jack is a middle aged guy who co-owns a mussel farm with his rough around the edges brother Dyfan, and the tension between the two of them is simmering under the surface right from the start. Dyfan's three sons all help out with the work, while Jack's sulky teenage son Tom keeps skipping out. Jack's been with his wife since they were both 16, and...
Kent is a pasty chef and Kane is an internet singer. Their managers decide that their collaboration could be beneficial for both of them. Both carry scars from their failed first loves but they have learned to live with the residue of their heartache. Kent stars mentoring Kane and some sparks of love can be noticed. They get a client for the gay wedding of Noah and Soda to make a cake and compose a song, they are all excited. Turns out Soda was Kane's first one in whose memory he composed his first song and became an internet sensation. We get to learn Soda and Kane's history where they both liked each other but never confessed. With Kane back in picture, Soda gets briefly confused about his feelings for Noah but with mature support of Kent, both the couples are back on track and the viewers get a happy ending.
Kent and Kane falling in love was actually quite random. It was more like just because we are 2 guys alone, so let's maybe kiss. Kane was definitely attracted to the chef but it was hard to say what Kent's feelings were like, since he was the more serious type. Soda's history with Kane is in fact more meaty and holds more interest and takes the story forward. It was nice to see Noah not taking Soda's bullshit, but also not creating drama. He gives him space and opportunity to follow his heart and take the right decision. So coming back together of Soda and Noah doesn't come as a surprise. But what's missing is a build up for our main couple. Kent and Kane are supposed to be leads but we don't see any love building up between the two barring the one food allergy incident. And for a country like Taiwan, which is most relaxed I Asia when it comes to LGBT rights, we merely get a kiss. That's not fair. The actors do a decent job. There is definitely a scope for improving but hopefully with more projects, it will happen. I am hoping Taiwan steps up its game in the BL Series. As far as this one is concerned, I was neither very upset with it nor very impressed. Its average. (5/10)
