A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. While they're trying to figure out how to start a family and have a baby, they decide to shake things up by in...
Honestly, what the fuck was this series about anyway? The storyline was all over the place and to be honest I didn't understand this series at all. I tried hard, I really did, but it just did not make any sense. And guess what's the worst thing: The lead pair or the couple looks so much alike. They have similar features, similar color hair, similar hairstyle, and more than half the time I would be confused on who's who. I had to focus on their ear-rings to know which of the two main protagonists we are talking about. Not that it made understanding this show any way. And with 10 episodes of almost 40-45 minutes each, the show goes on forever.
From a synopsis perspective, this is wha this show is supposedly about. Foam, a famous actor sees Chris, his lover, killed in front of him by the police. Magically he meets someone who transports him 6 years back into the past to correct the past for what he did wrong, causing Chris's death. Foam doesn't flinch at all realizing in the past, and continues with his life as if it is the most natural thing to do. He meets Chris, and joins a men's club where a lot of boys work as escorts or something. Then there is this other couple and whole lot of mystery and non sense. To be honest I finished watching the show but still cannot say with confidence what the show was all about, what exactly was bone of contention and how it eventually gets resolved in the current time.
You know sometimes the shows are so bad, you feel like you will get a laugh out of how bad the show was but. This is entirely different. It is just BAD. How to waste good looking actors and money is something that can be learned by this production team. For a time travel show, it had nothing to actually show, I mean the consequences and whatever. It just like Foam goes back in time and for everyone the life just goes on. This show just did not make any sense at all and they had the audacity to make 10 full on episodes. I am sure this will be one show after a long time that will unanimously get bad reviews. Often you find that few odd percentage that likes even the worst of shows but this one had no redeeming quality. I won't even recommend watching this for the sex scenes because you can watch them anywhere these days. Besides the odd script and bad direction, even the actors need some classes. They rambled off dialogues in a very monotonous tones without feeling it. I am really struggling here to say at least one thing good but sadly it just not there. What a waste !! This is 2024, at least don't insult the audience's sensibilities. (0.5/10)
