A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. While they're trying to figure out how to start a family and have a baby, they decide to shake things up by in...
Yet another disastrous Filipino gay series. At least this one came out during Covid times, when people were trying to offer content keep everyone entertained at home, so the series gets that benefit, but still there is no excuse for a paper thin story and an extremely shoddy execution. With 9 episodes lasting 12 ish minutes each, this is literally just a one liner story that had no need to built into a so called series.
In the first 4 episodes, we see that a young boy who has a girlfriend and is a painter dreams about a man, can't figure out who he is, draws his painting and eventually comes face to face with the guy named Noah. Turns out this was all a fictional story being created by an artist named Sean, whose best friend is Noah and Sean has a crush on Noah and truly loves him, but is scared of telling Noah the truth. Just the imaginary story, he does have a girlfriend and a gay best friend. His gay best friend writes a fictional story about Sean's love for Noah nd posts it online for all to see. This makes Sean get the courage to come out Noah with his string feelings for him.
I cant begin to describe how badly directed and acted the show was. It felt as if the actor playing the main lead in first 4 episodes decided to quit and hence they made this thing up about Sean writing a fictional story, because literally nothing else changed. The more I think about it, the more I am convinced. The actors were probably given just one corner of their house and so with a colored drape and a laptop, all they do was talking into camera with zero expressions and feelings and we are supposed to believe thatches series is a story of love for art and love for a dreaming heart. A lot of unnecessary characters are there in the show just for the sake of it, including many sequences of a teacher teaching online art classes. I am starting to feel that I need to stay away from Filipino shows, especially these low budget ones, because how much ever I give these a try, my experience keeps getting worse and worse. (1/10)
