This Thai film is going for that crime and romance mix inside the BL space, trying to blend coming of age struggles with gritty gang violence thrown in. Honestly, this movie really didn't need to exist. It grabs actors straight out of BL shows that you'll recognize instantly, then tries to drop them into this gritty setting with a story that just doesn't land. Even if there was some kind of heart buried in here somewhere, the way it's actually put together feels pretty amateur. Kheng comes from a rough background and has his heart set on studying in China, so he's grinding hard trying to land a scholarship. We don't get much of his backstory, but he's living with his friend Tai, who I'm pretty sure has feelings for him too, and Tai backs him up in every way he can. Bump Up Business (Korean Series)

Bump Up Business dives into the nitty gritty reality of queer baiting, obsessiveness, and exhaustion inside the industry while exposing what being gay inside the industry can mean. How the scandal, exposure, and stigma of being gay can threaten a career. I personally do not understand or relate was idea of concepts attached to pop groups, but its ok. The idea of this show was interesting and if executed could have done really well, but I cant help but wonder at the amateurishness in the way it was shown. At 8 episodes of 16 minutes each, it's a quick easy watch, but how I wish in this case more emotional background story was established for the characters rather than rushing into everything thats being shown.

Eden and Jihoon are selected by a performance company as their two idols. The CEO comes up with the idea of  "Business Gay Performance", to describe this relationship dynamic. The company will promote them as a very much in love gay couple. Eden is new to the industry and naiive, while Jihoon had some bad publicity in the past and is getting a second chance at fame. Eden and Jihoon go on a publicity tour before their debut, from photoshoots to interviews. Jihoon takes the lead each time. Whenever Eden appears nervous, Jihoon helps his partner relax and ease up. He also initiates their physical affection in front of the cameras. Jihoon, for whatever inexplicable reasons has fallen for Eden and we see slowly that because of his caring nature, Eden I also starting to fall for him. Enter the ex's. Jihoon's ex is a TV presenter, an evil guy and wants him back because he doesn't like Jihoon's closeness with Eden. We also see a pianist enter the scene who happens to be childhood love of Eden. Together they try to create differences between the relationship but eventually sense prevails and the duo confess their love in a very disappointing finale.

The story invests so much time into the love rivals, even though I don't give a damn about them. The story is too preoccupied with the supporting characters when it should've focused on the protagonists and their relationship growth. A high profile romance between two Korean idols could have had many complications but the shallow screenplay never bothers to explore that. As most shows, the only sense of intimacy (best real or projected for fans) is the meek lip touch which is really starting to get on my nerves now. Show us how they fall in love while balancing their career ambitions and budding feelings. Instead, Eden and Jihoon's superficial romantic journey lacks complexity. The entry of evil ex doesn't help at all. This nosedives the series completely down. Likewise, the childhood friend is another pointless distraction, clogging the narrative with unnecessary filler. Rather than a grand display of love, the series just ends so sudden without any high on climax. It is extremely unsatisfying to watch the finale. This show really accomplishes nothing, and will easily be forgettable as many other shows coming out. From the insipid plots to the lacklustre romance, this BL drama is a big disappointment. Also, what's up with such a tardy title!! (3.5/10)

A little disapointment for me as well. I was very interested in the fake gay story (fake love turning real is always cute) and was eager to see how it would develop with actual gay problems mixed with the troubled past of the senior one. Alas it was absolutely never explored. Instead they got lost with ex lovers. The evil one was enough already, then they added another one that got what... 10min of screen time?
I've read they are all part of an actual Kpop group, maybe the reason why there are so many characters, so that all members could appear? (total speculation on my part) I'll still go and check if I can recognize them with all their Kpop make up on XD
I think the "cute" one is a bit too innocent to be true. But the duo still has a good dynamic, and some cute moments.

Oh no I know nothing about K-pop. Just read somewhere they were part of a group. Just like "A shoulder to cry on" where they were part of a K-pop group too, watching their videos and realizing you can't recognize them with their make up from another world makes it a rather intriguing experience. Just like when you wake up next morning beside a girl, and without her make up and you wonder who you slept with. Take it next level and you have Kpop make up lol

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent. When I saw this series with 8 episodes of about 20-25 minutes each, I thought, good: Finally someone has come to senses and made a show which is not stretched out and they have tried to squeeze in a decent storyline in a good small episode format. But unfortunately, despite a decent premise on hand, the clunky writing, bad screenplay and an extreme tasteless portrayal of mental illness makes this show, not a fun watch. By the time it finishes, you just want to laugh off at the entire absurdity of it all.
