A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. The synopsis says "A romantic comedy series about a young catechist named Caloy and an old transgender named Dora making their way in finding what true love means. Find out how they answered the question, Can This be Love?" I have seen so many bad gay movies/series including Asian BL ones that my skin has become so thick, so when I see another absolute trash, at this point, I can't do anything but just laughs it off. This 7 part, 20 minute each series is as trashy and bad and transphobic as it can get.
A young boy Caloy has an interesting love-hate relationship with old trans woman Mamma Dora. The duo along with another friend go to a 'Can It Be Love' resort to help them sell resort since Dora is an agent. The owner, another young boy, shamelessly flirts with Mamma Dora. There are a few other random boys working, living near resort and then another trans female character, a friend of owner, comes to mix it all up while these people try to find love.
I dare you all to watch all 7 episodes of this show without fast forwarding this show. It is sooo bad, that its hard to express in words how annoying and downright disgusting this is. In the very first episode, we see Dora tasting a boy's puke. Yuck!! And the series just gets bad to worse. How is this comedy, is something that's beyond me. Every single aspect of the show, from writing to acting to editing to direction is outright pathetic and embarrassing. How can anyone, in their right mind, would want to be associated with this crap. I am so mad at myself (again!) that I wasted my time on other shitty production. Don't let the colorful poster fool you. Run away form this one. (0/10)
