This is your typical indie coming-of-age tale about a teenager, though it’s clearly working with a very tiny budget. Set within a migrant family living in Southern California’s Coachella Valley, the movie digs into how fragile old-school traditions and expectations can be. We follow a teenage son as he goes through the process of coming out and struggles to find acceptance while dealing with homophobia, domestic abuse, and a messy love triangle that involves his own sister. Goyo is seventeen and just about to graduate from high school. Since he’s been a bit more feminine since he was a little kid, he’s always had to deal with emotional and physical transition from his dad, Ramon, who is obsessed with him being "a man." The only real love he gets is from a lady next door who actually respects him for who he is. The family lives in a Mexican community where everyone works on a grape farm, but things get shaken up when a new guy named Lucio arrives. Lucio basically seduces Goyo ...
This show I available both as a series and a film version. I saw it as the film. But I have to say it moved at such a snail's pace. Plus the overall story is so unbelievable and unrealistic. Only if good looking actors could make a successful show, things everywhere around the world would have been simpler.
Seo Hae Won has just moved to a guest house in Seoul. On the rooftop of the guesthouse is a restaurant called "Tasty Florida" run by 4 close friends. A chance encounter with Baek Eun Kyu while on his way. To the guesthouse creates some type of attraction between the two guys. Baek Eun Kyu, who is the chef at the restaurant, runs the place with his best friend Ji Soo who own the restaurant, The two have been friends for over 15 years. For some reason Ji Soo also takes a liking for Seo Hae Won, and before you know there is an awkward love triangle between the three with two men fighting over the newbie without caring for his feelings. Eventually everything falls in place where Ji Soo realizes that he cannot force himself on the mutual love that the other two guys share with one another.
First thing is that I cannot understand, why would two friends who have known each other for over 15 years would get into some pretty dramatic arguments over a boy who they barely know, whether he is gay or not or even whether he likes either of them or not. No importance is given to Seo Hae Won as a character. The backstory of the two friends is never really unpacked that could give us more connection with their characters. They are both extremely good looking for sure and act alright, but its hard to connect with either of them. All this while Seo Hae Won continues to be just there. The other friends that were part of the hotel had not much to offer in the whole situation. Even the attraction between Seo Hae Won and Baek Eun Kyu was sudden and random. None of them really shared any sort of interesting chemistry. Rather than making a love triangle, which didn't make much sense, the film would have been much better if the relationship of the main couple was given more attention and their back stories were better established. (4.5/10)
