A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. While they're trying to figure out how to start a family and have a baby, they decide to shake things up by in...
This is your standard BL movie. If you've seen a lot of BL movies or shows, then you won't find nothing great or even different about this one. IT is simply ordinary. The actors are new, I would suppose, but they did a decent job. The film is almost 2 hours long , which honestly it did not need to because some scenes are stretched being reasoning, just for the sake of it and honestly it is very monotonous.
Ask and his girlfriend are headed out for a holiday to an island. On their way there, they meet Chai. Turns out that Aek and Chai used to be schoolmates and in fact roommates in school. The trip decide to hang out together and one night Aek and Chai are alone and they remember their school days. The entire film is then in flashback. Chai is a new student in school who ends up being Aek's roommate. Both of them are into sports. Very soon they becomes great friends, taking care of each other, eating, laughing, playing together and all is well. Secretly Chai has a crush on Aek who has no idea. One of Aek's friend really lusts after Chai and wants him bad. One day when he tries to force himself on Chai, Ask comes and saves Chai but this incident leaves Chai shaken. Ask promises to take really good care of him. They hang out even more than before and before you know, the two friends become intense lovers. They are both extremely happy. But as school term comes to an end, the dup part ways without our ill feelings or drama, just that nature of the situation. Back to present, the duo spend one more night together (for old times sake, I suppose) and sleep together. But Chai realizes that Aek has found love of his life and so he leaves him a letter wishing him luck with his girlfriend and he also needs to move on.
First of al, this movie needs editing. This 2 hour film, can easily be trimmed by 30 minutes. There are long drawn out scenes of games being played, the two guys hanging out, or eating together and these stretch out scenes really do not add any value. I get they wanted to make the whole situation clear but it was just a bit too much. You could understand their bond / love, their way of dealing and how things went in much less time. Also it didn't help that the background music was quite annoying. Coming to actors, I think they did a decent job, but honestly a thin subject like this would have been good as a short film. There is not much drama here to keep interest of the audience glued to their screen. This is likely just supposed to be feel good film, which is what it is> Maybe if I saw this film 10 years, when it actually came out, my views would have been different, but even since the BL situation exploded recently, stuff like this no longer ages well. (3.5/10)
