A Revry original, Unconventional is a really well-liked queer dramedy that feels totally different from the usual stuff. The heart of the story is about two pretty eccentric queer siblings and their partners trying to build a family that doesn't follow the traditional rules. It takes a super raw and unfiltered look at queer life, diving deep into things like mental health, addiction, and how complicated identity and relationships can get. It’s not afraid to get messy or show people at their most vulnerable, and it really pushes boundaries while showing a lot of different queer experiences. The first season has nine episodes, and each one is about a half-hour long. The story centers on Noah, a grad student who’s been struggling for years to wrap up his PhD. He’s been with his husband, Dan, for nine years, and they’ve recently gotten married and moved to Palm Springs. While they're trying to figure out how to start a family and have a baby, they decide to shake things up by in...
This was such an odd film. Set in 1948, the so called golden age of Hollywood and set in the tinsel town and broadway, the film's primary focus is on relationship between legend Monty Cliff and upcoming film maker Sid. Although the film says that it is inspired by true events, I have no way to validate it.
The story plot is very basic. Clift, a free-spirited lover of life and passion, draws Sid into untapped feelings for a man, while maintaining a relationship with “Hannah”, a blind woman who unintentionally opens the Pandora’s box. The film focusses on their summer romance while hiding the relationship away from prying eyes while making their way in the film world.
You know there is a problem when you lose interest within first 10 minutes of the film. The dialogues are so theatrical, flowery and pretentious that its hard to explain. Also, why do the actors have to speak in this poetry tone? It just doesn't sound real. The only positive side is that the actors playing Sid and Monty have this amazing hot scorching chemistry that makes up for all the negatives of this weird film, which is a cross between a play/movie/show. But besides that it was pretentious and annoying with a constant thought in my mind that 'I Could care less'. If you asked me two days from now what the film was about, I wouldn't remember and would have no reason to recommend this film to anyone at all. Save yourself some time. (1.5/10)
