This is the second vertical AI BL drama I've sat through, and honestly I went in knowing better. I had it on while I was doing cardio at the gym, and what struck me was just how much the plot echoed the last one I watched. Same step brother romance angle, same mystery girlfriend showing up near the end, same extra guy pining after one of the leads. Genuinely the only thing going for it was the runtime, the whole thing wrapped up in forty five minutes flat.  The setup kicks off with Finn moving schools because his mom just married into money. He finds out his new step brother Aiden goes to the same place, and he's warned to keep his distance from him. Their first run in at school is rocky, just like you'd expect, but there's this odd pull between them neither can shake off. Finn keeps telling himself not to read into it because Aiden's straight and openly homophobic. Things shift when some kids start bullying Finn and the student council president, Ryan, steps in to ...

Straight Until He Kissed Me (Vertical BL Drama)

Just when I thought I will take a break from these vertical short format mini series kinda shows, they keep coming more and more (just like Asian BL's) but sadly they are all starting to mix up now. Yes the plots are different, but they all follow same template of one or the both guys being "straight" eventually falling for another guy because "love shouldn't care for gender'. And then there will be an evil girlfriend, there would be some money involved somewhere either through mafia or business deals, there will be misunderstandings and all is well that ends well. This series is no different.

Miles is a med student, who finds out that his girlfriend is cheating on him. He decides that he will kiss someone else to prove that he is cheating so he can break up. But instead of a planned friend, he ends up kissing a man. He politely asks the guy to play along and he does. Only later Miles finds out that the guy is Hunter who happens to be the CEO in the company he is going to intern for. Somehow Miles end up becoming his PA, but both men make it very clear that neither is gay a they are not to talk about what happened. Interestingly, a girl who used to bully Miles in high school sees the whole scene where Miles tells his ex-gf that he is gay and is kissing another boy and catches on camera. She bullies Miles to make the video public and asks him to help her get close to the CEO. What happens is the opposite as you can imagine. Situations arise which lead to Hunter and Miles getting close. They both slowly start to realize that they have stringer feelings but since neither is gay, they are afraid to admit any of it. Eventually few more passionate kisses follow, they become couple and Miles decide to make their relationship official. Some last minute misunderstandings happen again because of the girl but eventually it all gets sorted and the duo make a happy couple. 

The story is basic and straight forward but what keeps your attention in the show is the two extremely good looking leads. They share good chemistry, the kisses re believable and you do get good body shots. Hunter is tall and arrogant but also the first one to realize, while Miles is the lanky straight twink, whom everyone thinks he is gay. As other shows in similar genre of vertical series, yes this is equally cheesy, over the top, a bit campy, and everything that makes these vertical dramas guilty pleasure to watch. I am in this weird position where I keep rolling my eyes while I watch them , but I also can't stop watching these. The one difference here is the leads sharing great chemistry which is the big win for the show. Other than that, if you are a lover of these kind of cheesy gay rom-coms easy to watch vertically on phone while doing other chores, it is not the worst thing in the world. (5/10)

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground.
