Chained To My Bully Stepbrother (AI Vertical BL Drama)

This is the second vertical AI BL drama I've sat through, and honestly I went in knowing better. I had it on while I was doing cardio at the gym, and what struck me was just how much the plot echoed the last one I watched. Same step brother romance angle, same mystery girlfriend showing up near the end, same extra guy pining after one of the leads. Genuinely the only thing going for it was the runtime, the whole thing wrapped up in forty five minutes flat.  The setup kicks off with Finn moving schools because his mom just married into money. He finds out his new step brother Aiden goes to the same place, and he's warned to keep his distance from him. Their first run in at school is rocky, just like you'd expect, but there's this odd pull between them neither can shake off. Finn keeps telling himself not to read into it because Aiden's straight and openly homophobic. Things shift when some kids start bullying Finn and the student council president, Ryan, steps in to ...

Getaway (Web Series)

Getaway was apparently one of the first gay BL dramas from Singapore. Besides 'People Like Us', I don't remember seeing any other BL shows, which is interesting, given how many more shows are being churned out by their neighboring Asian countries. I read in an interview by the makers of the show that through the 5 episodes of this show (available on y YouTube and about 10-12 minutes each), they hope to raise visibility, understanding and acceptance of Singapore’s LGBTQ+ community. Interestingly, the show is primarily set in English.

The story of the show is actually pretty straight forward. At the dinner table Sam comes out to his father as gay but the father doesn't take it too well. Angry he jets off to Bangkok, where apparently his uncle also moved to many years back, when Sam's grandfather disowned him many years ago for being gay. Sam is hoping to reconnect with his uncle with whom eh used to be close growing up. A chance meeting with a local Thai Boy in his hotel changes things for Sam. He meets Top, a Buffy, muscular handsome young man, who is looking for a stable relationship but has been unlucky in love. The duo get along very well right from the monist they meet and they sort of have a holiday fling started. Top shows Sam around and also helps him in his search for his uncle who even eventually finds. Top asks Sam to be his boyfriend but Sam declines citing his own issues of not loving himself (body issues) and moves back to Singapore. The show ends with an open note of one year later, Sam shows up at his uncle's doorstep with his father accompanying him, signaling that possible Sam's father is starting to come around with both his son and his brother's sexuality.

The story of the film is actually pretty basic and could easily have been a short film. But thankfully the production of the show, the acting and the direction are all good. So, at least they didn't do a shoddy job. Also, it's very obvious that the hotel the show is mostly shot in, "The Siam", is the sponsor of the show. As actors, the guy playing Top is really good. He is hot and has a charismatic energy to make this short episodes shine. I was hoping that the show would focus more on uncle an nephew and I can understand why the focus was mostly on love story, because believe it or not, eventually thats what sells. We needed a little more character development on both Sam and Top. Why the connection, why the attraction, why is Top desperate for relationship, why these parties. Similarly, why is Sam so insecure, what does he really want from life etc. Hopefully Season 2 would answer some of these things. The individual episodes sometimes added to the story while others like the one with ex-boyfriend was just not needed. I did like Top's introductory scene where he meets a guy for date but ends up in bed because of his big dick and how Top's friend makes a comment that every guy in Bangkok named Top is actually a bottom. Anyway, overall it's an easy breezy watch. (6/10)

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground.
