Stop! That! Train!

Coming out of the same studio that gave us RuPaul's Drag Race, and stacked with a whole crew of former contestants, Stop! That! Train! plays like RuPaul basically taking a bow for the entire franchise she's built. It's not really a gay film in the traditional sense, but with so many drag stars from Ru's shows popping up alongside a few cameos from well known out gay actors, I figured it earns a spot on this blog anyway. The whole thing is completely over the top, packed with GenZ slang, loud flashy visuals, and humor that's constantly winking at you knowing how ridiculous it is. Going in you'd assume it's meant to be a laugh riot, and a lot of critics online seem to be eating it up, but I just couldn't get into it at all. I've never really been someone who vibes with campy silly stuff like this, so honestly my reaction doesn't surprise me one bit. Club Friday 5: Secret of a Heart That Doesn't Exist (Thai Series)

Club Friday is a series of short stories based on a radio program called "Club Friday" where people call in to tell their stories. The stories told are true account of their life. Each episode is a different story. The sis one such story of a boy named Boss, the discovery of his sexuality and his life with people around him. The show is 4 episodes of about 50 minutes each.

Boss is a young boy who used to have crush on a school girl which eventually fizzled out when he joined college. There in his engineering workshop class is the first time when he meets hunky guy that he starts feeling something towards the same sex guys. But that doesn't go anywhere. But also during that time, he makes an online friend Win, who works as a flight attendant. The two start to create a beautiful relationship and Boss falls in love with him. Only later he finds out that Win already has a boyfriend. He is heartbroken but still wants to be friends with Win because he is the only person that makes Boss feel good. Boss is having issues at home. His mother is dying of cancer but his father is having an affair and his two siblings are unto no good. When they all find out that Boss is in love with a guy, his father throws him out of house. Boss moves to dorm, and this is when Win becomes his support. Win broke up with his boyfriend and Boss-Win are in some relationship, but Boss can't help very protective of Win, and this constant questioning bothers Win who has his own philandering ways. Win moves out and Boss finally has a heart to heart chat with his mother.

The story is told to us through a show on radio where Boss' letters are being read. Rather than a gay love story, the story is primarily about Boss, and him exploring his sexuality does play a vital role in his overall story. Boss acts ok as a man struggling to understand what he wants in life. Particularly towards the end when he decides that he needs no lover to go on with his life, but he will be a proud and out gay boy unafraid of anyone. But overall the show is pretty basic to be honest. Its like you are watching a random story, without feeling anything for either character. You know exactly what is going to happen and where things are headed for them. The characterization of everyone was pretty single focusses and very bland, which makes the repeat value of this show zero. There is absolutely nothing that is memorable after you have finished watching the show. Its not bad, but not decent either. I'd recommend to watch only if you have nothing better to do but otherwise this is easily skippable. (3/10)

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Gaya Sa Pelikula (Filipino Series) [Like In The Movies]

Pinoy BL series seem to be catching up to the popularity of the Thai shows. And I must say that they are doing a pretty good job at it. Where Thai series started to get repetitive with so many shows based in a college setting with seemingly similar storylines, Pinoy series are offering the viewers with new and interesting stories and some really good sets and surroundings. This series was 8 episodes of about 25-20 minutes each. Karl, a 19-year old introvert architecture student is in the middle of an identity crisis. Prior to the start of the second semester in college and forced by his parents, he moves into his uncle's condominium unit so that he can learn to be financially independent. The Tuxedo (Thai Series)

When I saw this series with 8 episodes of about 20-25 minutes each, I thought, good: Finally someone has come to senses and made a show which is not stretched out and they have tried to squeeze in a decent storyline in a good small episode format. But unfortunately, despite a decent premise on hand, the clunky writing, bad screenplay and an extreme tasteless portrayal of mental illness makes this show, not a fun watch. By the time it finishes, you just want to laugh off at the entire absurdity of it all. Aioun is talented tuxedo designer and very much in demand but he has handful of clients and he builds suits only for people who he feels a connection to.
