Chained To My Bully Stepbrother (AI Vertical BL Drama)

This is the second vertical AI BL drama I've sat through, and honestly I went in knowing better. I had it on while I was doing cardio at the gym, and what struck me was just how much the plot echoed the last one I watched. Same step brother romance angle, same mystery girlfriend showing up near the end, same extra guy pining after one of the leads. Genuinely the only thing going for it was the runtime, the whole thing wrapped up in forty five minutes flat.  The setup kicks off with Finn moving schools because his mom just married into money. He finds out his new step brother Aiden goes to the same place, and he's warned to keep his distance from him. Their first run in at school is rocky, just like you'd expect, but there's this odd pull between them neither can shake off. Finn keeps telling himself not to read into it because Aiden's straight and openly homophobic. Things shift when some kids start bullying Finn and the student council president, Ryan, steps in to ...

You Are Ma Boy (Vietnamese Series)

A low budget quick web series of just 6 episodes, this is a small addition to Vietnam trying to come up with their set of BL shows for viewers like us. The show was bring promoted as love between two straight boys, but I think that sort of promotional material is misleading. Why do the makers think that they will get more viewers just by bringing in the 'straight' angle. That way I do appreciate Thai shows where most folks are shown to be sexually fluid and fall in love with a. Person and not the gender.

Duong is your regular boy next door who works in a cafe. He goes with his best friend, a girl co-worker to take signature of a famous singer Nhat Nam and make his acquaintance. Next day when Nhat Nam comes to the cafe, he is followed by his fans and Dung helps him get out. They exchange numbers. Somehow Nhat Nam takes a liking for Duong but Duong is very dismissive of the whole thing. Eventually they start becoming friends. Clearly Nhat Nam has feelings for him, but Duong is unsure. Enter the singer's parents, and we learn the story when Nhat Nam's father kicked him out of home just because he wanted to become singer and not follow his parents business of bakery. They haven't talked for four years but on Duong's persistence, he is eventually able to bury the hatchet. But when Duong realizes that people are mistaking the duo as a couple, he starts keeping a distance from Nhat Nam because he thinks how can two boys be together. (Meanwhile Duong's boss, who has a huge crush on him,  on two different occasions just declares Duong is his boyfriend just to throw people off). So this excuse was a bit lame. Eventually he comes to sense and the two become a couple and share a kiss. But their pictures are leaked and Nhat Nam's management company decides to make. BL story with these two characters to salvage their reputation. It turns out that Nhat Nam's jealous manager is the one responsible for all this. Luckily the series becomes a hit and the the couple moves in together.

The first thing you notice about the show is that actually the two leads are pretty decent looking and actually share a good chemistry with each other. They have this sense of ease and comfort with one another that just works. Guy playing Duong has been innocence yet goofiness about him that really works in his favor. In comparison, Nhat Nam's character feels like could have used more substance, even though we do see a lot of his back story but somehow it does not string your heart. Duong's crazy co-worker was a laugh riot, but actually I personally do take offense of people like her who invade other people's privacy to gain followers on social media. She had no business in making videos about the couple's love. And she does does that multiple times. It's just wrong. But other than that she does get some good lines and I loved it when she comes and slaps the singer's manager in the last episode. The show tries to cover a lot in it short 20 minute episodes but it all comes together. Yes, the romance building between the couple could have been better, but its all good. I was initially upset about how the two kisses shown were more just lip touching but thanked for that last finale one minute where they actually get physical and we do get to see full on kissing. Give this a watch. It’s short enough so you won’t feel cheated and it’s cute enough to make you smile. At least better than those Thai shows which go on for 12/14 episodes with very little movement. (6/10)

Nice litle series, thank you for the recommendation. I nearly dropped it after the first 2 episodes that were really bad (total mess, bad characters, romance coming out of nowhere etc). But then it increasingly got better and at the end I would have asked for more. I liked how they made the ending "you thought it was the end?" before getting more physical haha.
I have a small BL recommandation : Mr unlucky has no choice but to kiss. A strange mix between Cherry magic and Ossan's love, crazy japanese spirit style, I loved it!

Phor Lae Lukchai (Thai) [Father & Son]

I think the budget of this film was probably too small, but for that, the film definitely offers a different and unique storyline without over dramatizing anything. Yes, some scenes were a bit amateurish but in the bigger scheme of things, that can be overlooked. The film is both beautiful and sad in its own unique way. Aek is a gay dad, whose partner died right around the time their son Nueng was born through surrogacy in a road accident. The relationship between father and son is unpleasant and unstable. We are not really told why, but it seems the father has been unsuccessful in caring and loving his son because of his partner's death. Aek continues to hook up wit hookers. Also, Nueng is constantly bullied by everyone around him for having a gay dad. He has no friends, except Nat, a neighborhood boy, who also happens to be Nueng's boyfriend. In a sudden turn of events Nat is found murdered along with another boy naked. Saddened by the events, Nueng jumps from roof and k...

Sei no Gekiyaku (Japanese) [Dangerous Drugs of Sex]

Every person has their own unique way of dealing with loss. This film is as much a psychological thriller as it is a soft porn BDSM portrayal of two young men that makes the film overall horrifying as well as humane. It is really hard to describe the genre of this film in one word. Its important not that the film has some really disturbing scenes so if you go into seeing this film, please proceed with caution. Although any sexual non-consensual activity is not ok, this film has its won strange way of showing that suicide is not the only solution to all life's problems. Makoto is a regular office goer, who just finds out that his girlfriend is probably cheating on him. ON top of it, his parents sudden death coming back from a trip that he forced them to take, he gets completely dejected and decides to commit suicide. Unknown to him, he is saved by mysterious man Yoda Ryoji, and he wakes up finding himself tied up in leather and belts in a very BDSM setting. This mysterious saver soo...

The Shortest Distance is Round 3: Fallen Flowers

Continuing with the weird trilogy of "The Shortest Distance", I am so glad that finally I am done with part 3 and won't have to deal with this again in future. Thankfully, as of now the makers have not announced any further parts; which will save all of us on this earth from the embarrassment of watching this in near future. After the first 10 minutes are used in sort of recapping bits of first two parts, the story moves forward. Haruto is now starting to have feelings for Ruka, the mysterious pole dancer from second part. In a fit of rage, Ruka ends up killing the goat man and to save him and Haruto, Shibahara asks them to go underground. Meanwhile Shibahara continues the search for Seiya (the guy who had cut off Haruto's penis). It turns out Seiya is now also taking care of the original club owner from part 1. Both of them were released after they had informed Shibahara of Aoyama's secret location. Shibahara tortures Seiya's boyfriend leading to Seiya killin...
