This is the second vertical AI BL drama I've sat through, and honestly I went in knowing better. I had it on while I was doing cardio at the gym, and what struck me was just how much the plot echoed the last one I watched. Same step brother romance angle, same mystery girlfriend showing up near the end, same extra guy pining after one of the leads. Genuinely the only thing going for it was the runtime, the whole thing wrapped up in forty five minutes flat. The setup kicks off with Finn moving schools because his mom just married into money. He finds out his new step brother Aiden goes to the same place, and he's warned to keep his distance from him. Their first run in at school is rocky, just like you'd expect, but there's this odd pull between them neither can shake off. Finn keeps telling himself not to read into it because Aiden's straight and openly homophobic. Things shift when some kids start bullying Finn and the student council president, Ryan, steps in to ...
The story is simple. Isumi is a 20 year old student who has joined the school's cooking club with his friends, since he loves cooking. One day, he is quite drunk as he is walking home. He encounters Amasawa, a 30-year-old police officer. A concerned Amasawa asks to see Isumi's ID to verify his age and then walks him home to ensure safety. Next day when Amasawa goes to convenience store to get his lunch, he finds Isumi working there and asks for his suggestion for lunch. Amasawa keeps his friendly cheerful demeanor and asks Isumi for suggestions. Although initially annoyed, Isumi gives in because he notices that that Amasawa has tendency to pick unhealthy options. One day Isumi decides to cook for him at his home as a thank you and a beginning f new friendship starts. This happens a few times till one day Izumi's apartment is flooded and Amasawa offers him to stay in his house. Before they both know it, they get very used to each other's company. Them both having lived alone on thier own, this is a welcome change for both. Isumi has feelings for Amasawa but latter's feelings are not very clear. It's when Isumi moves back home, he confesses his feelings to Amasawa who asks for sometime to give back his reply. It seems Amasawa is bothered by their age difference, but he also starts to realize how much he loves and cares for Isumi.
The main characters are sweethearts who showcase their precious personalities in various scenes. They ar not over the tp like some really funny Japanese shows rather they are endearing. Their kind gestures and oddly endearing quirks, make you smile and wanna root for their compatibility and love. You can see the genuine care and warmth in them. Sadly somewhere in the middle of the show, the pace becomes slow. Isumi clearly has feelings but their relationship doesnt grow much. There's a long wait before this romance escalates. You start questioning whether the relationship is platonic, friendship or more and the show keeps you guessing till the second last episode. And in this whole process you also get to witness some real good food too. As actors both the leads do a good job. Isumi brings a good range based on his character from comedic moments to dramatic exchanges. In contrast Amasawa is a more one-dimensional mr goody two shoes kinda person. And I am not sure why he takes his time to make up his decision on his feelings for Isumi. It was interesting that neither of the characters considered themselves gay but it's more about getting attracted to the personality (despite gender) which makes the show endearing. Sadly, although the story ends happily, it has stretched the relationship drama for too long and somewhere in the middle it becomes a drab; but still overall I would give it a decent impression and would recommend it for its simplicity.
