This is the second vertical AI BL drama I've sat through, and honestly I went in knowing better. I had it on while I was doing cardio at the gym, and what struck me was just how much the plot echoed the last one I watched. Same step brother romance angle, same mystery girlfriend showing up near the end, same extra guy pining after one of the leads. Genuinely the only thing going for it was the runtime, the whole thing wrapped up in forty five minutes flat. The setup kicks off with Finn moving schools because his mom just married into money. He finds out his new step brother Aiden goes to the same place, and he's warned to keep his distance from him. Their first run in at school is rocky, just like you'd expect, but there's this odd pull between them neither can shake off. Finn keeps telling himself not to read into it because Aiden's straight and openly homophobic. Things shift when some kids start bullying Finn and the student council president, Ryan, steps in to ...
Uno, a This actor working in Korea is popular for his good looks. But because of his aloofness, there is a perception that he is arrogant and hence not many folks want to work with him. His manager, CEO Choi, wants to soften Uno's image by signing him up for a reality show that can restore his goodwill. One day, Uno finds an injured dog on the road and he ask his assistant to take him to a vet, despite his fear of dogs. He is treated but the vet would prefer f the dog gets adopted. Luckily, his friend and roommate Dae Byeol, a huge animal lover and someone who runs a dog cafe, agrees to adopt him and take care of the dog. Uno finally agrees to work in this reality show. As part of it, the producers assigns Uno to work at a dog cafe run by Dae Byeol to help the celebrity overcome his fear of animals. She believes viewers will tune in to the show to watch him struggle at the job. Many such odd jobs are assigned to him during his stay at the dog cafe. This is where Uno and Dae also get closer to one another with their shared love for this specific dog (Uno overcome's his fear eventually). The show gets good ratings, everyone is happy. There is a bit of forced drama of Uno's father being this big businessman, but its just adds more layer of "bad" to an already awful show.
Despite the handsome lead actors and the unique Thai-Korean collaboration, Love Is Like a Cat delivers a terrible BL drama. The writing is embarrassingly childish, while its attempts at comedy are always unfunny. The romantic angle, which in itself is so forced happens only towards the 7th or the 8th episode. Also, I would like to know why does the name of the show has cat reference, even though it's a dog who is at the center of it all. The show is full of red flags. Uno speaks in Thai while everyone speaks in Korean and they all understand each other. I understand that they have this device for the rarity show that does real time translation, but what about outside the show. It’s like what is even going on? Did they legit put this out for the audiences to watch? Even in the animal clinic, there were no animals except one dog, two nurses, and no one else. The makers of this show have no idea whether it wants to tell a story about dogs, cats, celebrity culture, filming a reality show, or a mishmash of everything. Not even one single episode of the show have any charisma. Too much pointless filler clutters the narrative, with supporting characters having dull conversations that burden each episode with unnecessary information. As Uno and Dae Byeol spend time together, their relationship scenes are unremarkable. This series doesn't understand how to write a compelling romance. The awkward flirtation isn't enough to warm anyone's heart. Even after Uno and Dae Byeol kiss, I never believe that they are falling in love. Even Uno's shirtless scenes did not evoke anything.
Overall this show is just poorly written , with no plot, no chemistry, no performance energy; absolutely nothing. This should be completely avoidable. (2/10)
